The spring of colors and scents

Chatting with Carlo:

Do you know Coffee Bar of Color? … The Coffee Bar of Color? What is, a new trendy coffee shop? No! It is a space created inside a paint factory that produces paints and natural products for the building industry.

The peculiar thing is that when you enter in the factory, dont feel the smell of paint but only scents of good things, and you can breathing deeply without having that feeling lightheaded typical when you inhale some substances such as paints…

How strange … and how they do it? For example, using the milk and eggs. For this fragrance you feel good. And the pigments dont come from petroleum or other toxic substances, but from plants.

And why they have chosen this path? So, the grandfather and the father of the owner  Spring Color, were decorators and cabinetmakers, but they got both illnesses related to the use of paints. For this reason Roberto, the owner, in the early 90s, he decided to convert the business and devote himself to the study of ancient recipes of paints and natural products for the construction industry. In most of products, Spring Color uses pigments (coloring matters) as the natural earth oxides and vegetables. Binding agents (adhesives) are the best kicks and / or milk, egg, wax, oils, fibers and vegetable gums. But even carbonates, sands, celluloses and vegetable solvents.

Good then let’s go! I’d love to visit it to show this our readers.

Francesco, sales manager of the company, welcomes us and invites us to visit the production area. What a finding original pasteurizer in a company that produces paints!

But it is also the most normal thing because they use materials from the farming as fresh milk just expired, egg white and egg yolk, fresh beeswax, extracts from citrus fruits, medicinal plants. And it is true: just inside the company’s entrance you are immersed in the scents of a cake shop!

The use of such materials, preceded by pasteurization and homogenization, is supported by a system of  “natural” conservation (acidification and alkalization with vinegar, essential oils, citric acid, borates, salts, lime, propolis that stabilize the pH and the charge bacterial).

The system of innovative conservation has been recognized by international organizations that have granted a European and U.S. patent. The ingredients are declared on the label with full transparency, while the privileged classes of the petrochemical manage to get laws to their advantage in terms of labels and safety data sheets are not transparent. If a producer uses a conventional ingredient suspected to be carcinogenic dont have to declare. Often allows using of prefixes in the names of some products such as bio, eco and others. For example, few people know that almost all water-based paints contain resins and other petrochemical substances, pigments, preservatives, surfactants, and phthalates odorless but dangerous. Retailers often have not knowledge chemicals and painters: dont know what they use, dont have to take courses in occupational medicine.

The natural finish is not stripping with time and are fully breathable; they solve the problems of rising damp and  are fantastic for the prevention and elimination of mold. In the fields of restoration and renovation in the historic centers should be used by law because the rule provides materials that comply with the traditional architecture, and traditional color values.

Aesthetically decorating with natural paints, the natural clays and plant pigments enhances the objective beauty of  color (due to the maximum reflection of light, not imprisoned by high refraction of acrylic resins and pigments chemicals). The strengths are most evident respect for the environment (do not pollute the stages of production of raw materials and products) and the health of users whether they are operators that residents of the buildings.

Carlo and I go up to the upper floor where is conducting a course for artists and architects who want to learn how to apply and have the best from products.

The course is part of the School of color, a project divided into different modules with specific lessons. SC argues that the history of color that begins with Homo sapiens began to macerate natural clays, minerals, plants and shells, giving rise to the first forms of art. The goal of the School of color is to share and create opportunities for training around the world of color and the use  ecological building materials.

To enrich the experience of color that you can do in SC meetings are held with experts of color therapy, feng shui and geobiology to learn how to use color in order to improve their psychological well-being and improve the harmony with the home environment. In short, an intense cultural activity that complements an area that Spring Color has particularly care about, that of tempera teaching. For some years the search for SC has focused its research on the childhood world, producing a range of artistic products for children, starting from the ecological powder tempera, colored with vegetable or food substances, fully declared on the label.

Finally intrigued  I ask which restoration sites in the Marche has been made with their products.  I discover the restoration of the frescoes of the Abbey of Fiastra – (MC) sec. XIII which we discussed in one of our first post here, as well as the cathedral of Osimo (AN), which we hosted in the photo collection  here Crypt sec. XII,  Palaces Gallo sec. XVII – XVIII Osimo (AN) and Medieval walls of the Plan (XII – XIII) – Fabriano (AN)
